Volunteer

The students, instructors, staff and Board of Directors of Encore University greatly appreciate the time, talents and efforts of EU’s many volunteers. By volunteering at Encore University, you can have a positive impact on the lives of many individuals!

If you are interested in any of the following volunteer opportunities, please contact the Encore University office at 480-991-6424 ext. 164 or email for more information. Come have fun with us – we welcome all volunteers! It is not necessary to be a member of Valley Presbyterian Church. Please volunteer early to facilitate recruiting and training.

Instructors

Encore University is always looking for qualified instructors to teach a wide variety of interesting topics. Perhaps your area of expertise could be the newest course! Most classes meet for 50 minutes once a week for 5 weeks. When appropriate, classes can be scheduled for longer times and/or twice a week.

General Ambassadors

These ambassadors are stationed around campus to welcome students to Encore University, answer questions, give directions and distribute student packets. They also set up signs and water/information tables in the morning, and put things away in the afternoon.

Fireside Café

Positions in the Café involve hospitality, customer service, attention to detail and either accuracy with money or food preparation (no actual cooking). No experience necessary. Café volunteers need to learn correct kitchen procedures and take a test online to get their Food Handlers Card. Onsite training will also be provided before each term begins. The beautiful Fireside Café is open 8:30-1:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays when EU is in session. The three-hour shifts are 8:00-11:00 and 11:00-2:00. What works for you?

NEW – Classroom Ambassadors

These positions are filled by Valley Presbyterian Church members. One ambassador per class represents Encore University by welcoming students and making sure their classroom is set-up properly before they arrive each week. On the first and second weeks of class they confirm that a registration form has been completed and tuition has been paid by every student, and if necessary, they assist students who have not completed the registration process before they attend the class. Classroom ambassadors also take attendance, answer questions, announce upcoming events, distribute flyers and evaluation forms, and act as a liaison between the EU office staff – and the students and instructors in their assigned class.

Board of Directors

These positions are filled by Valley Presbyterian Church members who also serve EU in other ways.
